Snorekil, the simple plastic oral stop snoring device, has a long history. Many years of thinking, planning and experience are behind it. This is how, and why, Paul Cattel came up with the idea…In 1997, Paul was living and working in Canada as a dental technician. He saw the need for an effective anti-snoring appliance while working with snoring patients as part of the team (including doctors, dentists and sleep specialists) at Foothills Hospital in Calgary.
Paul devised and custom made oral devices which proved very successful in helping patients to stop snoring, but they were expensive to manufacture and to buy.
After Paul returned to the UK from Canada, he continued to make individual anti-snoring oral devices for patients at his dental laboratory. What he really wanted was to produce an affordable, adjustable oral device that could be bought without prescription or the need for special fitting by a dental professional.
Producing a device that was just right meant travelling back to Canada for several overnight stays at the hospital in Calgary to design prototype devices and work with the sleep specialists there. At the same time, Paul and his wife, Marie, were looking at all the other anti-snoring oral devices on the market and seeing what their product, now called Snorekil, could offer that was better.
Paul and Marie set up a business, Sleepworks Products, to manufacture and sell Snorekil. Paul says: “We were so sure the Snorekil was going to be a great product that we invested the proceeds from the sale of our dental laboratory in research, development and manufacturing costs.”
It took many sleepless nights in a laboratory, and many different designs, as well as numerous trips to the plastics company to develop the desired material; it had to be soft and comfortable to wear, but hard-wearing enough to last. A few prototypes went in the bin before that bit was right!
After all the hard work by him and his wife, Paul is delighted to announce: “We’ve produced a stop snoring device that we’re really proud of – and our achievement has been recognised! In 2006, the Snorekil won a prestigious award for innovation at the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions, and a further award followed – a silver medal this time – at the British Invention Show in October 2006.”
More importantly, Snorekil really works. Read success stories below – first hand reports from our satisfied customers – and buy online now.

David Burbidge: My Snorekil diary
My first 14 days with the Snorekil anti-snoring device
I used my Snorekil every night for 14 nights. The initial discomfort wore off after 3 nights of using the mouthguard on the first notch and it appeared to have already stopped my snoring.
I started snoring again on the tenth night, but after moving the top mouthguard back to the second notch, to push my lower jaw a little further forward, I haven’t started snoring again. I am amazed the device works so well compared to other similar devices I have tried.
The instructions that came with the device were very clear and precise, and I was able to fit the device to my mouth shape easily so that it was comfortable to wear at night.
I found that if any part of the device lost its shape, it was really easy to reshape it by putting just that part back in hot water; there was no need to reshape the whole device, which was great.
David’s diary
Day 2: I made some minor adjustments to the shape of my Snorekil device to make it fit more comfortably. This was easy to do by putting it back in hot water and reshaping it in my mouth.
Day 3 to Day 9: I stopped snoring but I had some discomfort while my teeth got used to the Snorekil mouthguards. This stopped after 7 days.
Day 10 to Day 14: I started snoring again, so I moved the top mouthguard back to the second notch. This setting seemed to be just right for me, and I stopped snoring after making the adjustment.
One year on: I’ve been using the Snorekil for over a year now and it still works really well. I’m sleeping very well and my snoring hasn’t returned. My wife is so pleased that we now both get a good night’s sleep!
Mrs A Lloyd: Quite simply, it works
Since using the Snorekil on a trial basis I had to write to admit how impressed I am with this product.
It took some time to get used to wearing it, but like with anything new, the more I wore it the more I got used to it. Now I sleep right through the night without a sound (so I have been told!) and wake feeling refreshed.
I am thinking of moving onto a custom made Snorekil. I believe the custom device is even smaller and even more comfortable to wear. Thank you all at Sleepworks Products for giving me the chance to take part in the trials.
